Partial acrylic denture

In case of several missing teeth when they cannot be replaced by a bridge or an implant (there is not enough bone – unfortunately this is often the case with lost upper molars) the solution can be to create a partial removable denture. This is linked to the remaining teeth with a wire anchor/clip. The function of the wire is to hold the removable part, so the denture will not fall or move from its place during chewing or speaking. The disadvantage of this denture is that the clips are made out of metal and they are visible – it’s not an aesthetic look. As the baseplate is acrylic it can break easily or becomes porous, and the wire clips can get bent easily, therefore partial dentures are made only as temporary solution.

Partial acrylic denture: Partial clip anchored denture can be made to the lower arch as well. The removable part of the denture is linked to the remaining teeth with a wire clip. As the lower teeth are less visible for the majority of the people during speaking and smiling, it is usually not a problem that the metal clip is positioned in a visible area. Unfortunately this kind of a denture with an acrylic baseplate is not too durable, it can break easily, the clips get bent easily thereby losing their anchoring function. The acrylic part cannot be padded, it becomes porous and collects bacteria. We create these kind of partial dentures only as a temporary solution.
