Porcelain crown fused to metal
Contrary to the traditional/old school preparation, the shoulder-grinding can ensure the continuity between the crown and the gum and can provide the easy clearability so it can help keeping the gum healthy. No more sore/inflamed gum or bleeding at brushing the teeth, there is no periodontal destruction or gum shrinking and there is no black-metallic colour appearance around the crown. The shoulder preparation increases the lifespan of the crown, it is aesthetical and it doesn’t harm the gum. Our dentist prefer the shoulder prepared crowns against the traditional ones. It is a very wise decision to choose this type of crown against the traditional as it can save you from acquiring an allergic syndrome in ten or twenty years and it can help you to avoid having physical illnesses such as loss of immunity, formation of inflammatory nodule, hair loss, rheumatic disease, etc. The gingivitis that has been risen because of traditional crowns can be cured if the crowns are replaced and the stumps are re-grinded to become shoulder-prepared, so the old crown/bridge can be replaced by a brand new one that sorts out the problems.
Porcelain crown fused to metal (+price of the gold 35 Euro/gram)
In case of metal allergy the ceramics can be burnt on a dental gold frame. It’s recommended only for those really have metal allergy, as even a bridge of 3-5 partials can be very heavy because of the weight of the gold alloy. In particular, the upper (or long) bridge can make chewing much harder because of its weight and it’s tiring for the masseter muscle. Thus golden frame is used only if there’s no possibility to use zirconium, which is more bio-compatible anyway than gold and nicer teeth can be made by using it. The cast golden bridges are only offered as a choice since their aesthetics is outdated, zirconium based frames are looking nicer and they are better quality. Since use of zirconium started in the dental industry, it overshadowed the other metal-framed dentures, as it can fully replace them and it also looks much nicer and no allergy develops to it. Obviously, you can choose the golden frame, which is still a good enough solution. It’s aesthetic, bacteria-repellent, well cleanable and maintainable piece. It’s a long-term solution, in case of metal allergy this is the second best solution after the zirconium based frames. However it’s heavy, the masseter muscle needs to get used to it, the adaptation could take weeks, and it might be a weird feeling wearing it. It can be made only to shoulder-prepared stumps.
