Teeth whitening (in one hour at the dental surgery)
We recommend teeth whitening with teeth whitening professioanl gel in our office to those who: – do not want to sleep with teeth whitening trays in their mouth for two weeks, – want to avoid inconveniences associated the above, – want immediate – and at present the possible – results. The main advantage of teeth whitening gel, that you will have beautifully bright and white teeth within an hour (with a possibility to rinse in every 20 minutes). Since the whitening substance is not harmful to the gum you don’t need gum-protection or having a tray made or used. The process of teeth whitening:
- Teeth inspection – caries/cavity needs to be treated and calculus/plaque needs to be removed
- Determination of the original colour of the teeth (before discolouration) using a colour shade guide
- Application of the teeth whitening gel directly on the prepared teeth. The gel itself is tissue-friendly, doesn’t damage the gum and ph-neutral.
- Illumination of the teeth for 20 minutes with the teeth whitening plasma-lamp and then repetition of the process two times if necessary after washing down the gel.
After teeth whitening we check the colour of the teeth again to determine how many shades they changed. In general we usually achieve 8-10 shades whiter teeth. The patients only need to be aware not to drink any coloured liquids for about 3-4 days after the treatment. The whiteness of the teeth can be kept for years by living a healthy lifestyle, correct nutrition and a regular, thorough oral care. The comparison sheet of teeth whitening can be found at our reception.
Teeth whitening with laser light (for teeth that were treated with root canal)
The main difference between home and dentistry teeth whitening is that we already try to whiten/bleach the tooth that was treated with root canal in the office. Through the whitening process we avoid milling then we apply the bleach onto the enamel and then enlighten it with laser light for a minute. The beutiful result is visible immediately. The process can be repeated a couple of times to achieve the optimum bleaching results. Experiences show that using only laser teeth whitening is not enough to achieve the best whitening result, it is recommended to complete it with home teeth whitening. However the main advantage of laser teeth whitening that it is saving the tooth itself as we bleach the enamel only. If the level of discolouration is too high and the laser teeth whitening results in no effect then the possibility of home teeth whitening is still there which leads to a certain result (with a disadvantage of sacrificing some dental tissue and the result will be visible only in a few days or a week). The comparison table of different teeth whitening processes is available at the reception.
Teeth whitening at home
There are different methods to whiten all the teeth at the same time. One of the simplest and most commonly used is the home teeth whitening (e.g. Opalescence). This method can help only in whitening the teeth that are yellowed/coloured by simple causes such as nicotine, coffee, aging or external causes. We create a pair of unique upper and lower splints which you can apply the Opalescence gel into and then fix it up on your teeth as and how your dentist advised you. During the 2 weeks recommended whitening period you need to attend about 1-2 times at the dentistry for a check-up where you can get answers for your arising questions as well. The whitening must be dentist-supervised as the whitening materials are irritating to the soft tissues of the mouth so you might end up having problems instead of having whiter teeth if you don’t stick to the dentist’s instructions. The advantage of the splint is that the back teeth get whitened as well through a slower, softer way. Disadvantages are that it takes longer time, wearint the splints can be a burden and causes sensitivity that stays longer than the one caused by whitening at the dentistry.
